{"id":15193,"date":"2018-10-26T11:51:50","date_gmt":"2018-10-26T15:51:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.merig.com\/?p=12649"},"modified":"2019-10-09T14:58:30","modified_gmt":"2019-10-09T18:58:30","slug":"approach-nutrition-differently","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mgdining.com\/foxcroft\/2018\/10\/26\/approach-nutrition-differently\/","title":{"rendered":"Approach Nutrition Differently"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with many different types of clients as they journeyed toward weight loss &amp; wellness.\u00a0 I was self-motivated to eat well &amp; exercise, so I made the na\u00efve assumption that empowering people with knowledge would naturally lead to better choices and hence weight loss.\u00a0 Sadly, this assumption has been proven wrong time and time again in my personal experience.\u00a0 The great majority of clients actually possess quite a bit of nutrition knowledge, however, knowledge does not always translate into action.\u00a0 A person struggling with obesity does not want to be told how to count calories when they have been doing it unsuccessfully for years.\u00a0 There are actually many examples of this \u201cpreaching to the choir\u201d type nutritional education, but at some point in my career, I assumed that perhaps I just wasn\u2019t teaching them right &amp; nevertheless, I persisted.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My epiphany came when I attended an eating disorders conference and learned about\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.intuitiveeating.org\/\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.intuitiveeating.org\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1540652350147000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEpEJ-i9du9Nry15Gix0UpECPoyZw\">Intuitive Eating<\/a>. Intuitive Eating is an evidenced-based, mind-body health approach, comprised of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.intuitiveeating.org\/10-principles-of-intuitive-eating\/\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.intuitiveeating.org\/10-principles-of-intuitive-eating\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1540652350147000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHLOH4LyNgtZoxZb45O1q_Bhd8Z4g\">10 Principles<\/a>\u00a0and created by two dietitians, one of whom lead the conference session. I walked away from this conference feeling completely inspired and ready to change the way I approach nutrition education.\u00a0 The transition to an intuitive eating approach has not been easy; changing your relationship with food and your body is certainly scary. And despite my best attempts I still get many requests for \u201cstrict meal plans\u201d and \u201ctell me what to eat since I don\u2019t trust myself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To date, my most successful outcome was with an overweight client who learned to love herself.\u00a0 While she may not have lost many pounds on the scale, she learned how to embrace her genetic blueprint &amp; focus on the strength of not only her body but also her mind. \u201cHealthy\u201d eating &amp; exercise\u201d came as a natural consequence to the more internal changes she made in her life.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lastly, I wanted to share these\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/alissarumsey.com\/nutrition\/intuitive-eating-dietitian\/\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/alissarumsey.com\/nutrition\/intuitive-eating-dietitian\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1540652350147000&amp;usg=AFQjCNE6Vzvnd5dFJ74QNb--F3ksCv0OnA\">points<\/a>\u00a0made by an RD who embraces the philosophy of Intuitive Eating.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enjoy food..all food<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tap\u00a0into your intuition and listening to what you need.
